Is that foundation really almost 2 meters deep? How cold does it get there? It looks beautiful and traditional.
But I couldn't help wondering, if it is so deep, why not put radiant insulation on the outside of the concrete foundation and just use the inner space as a thermal flywheel? Put some solar heated water coils down into the ground, heat it up all summer and use it all winter. It wouldn't be instant (fairly) like the ondol, but steady. You are the expert Kyle, would that work?

Thanks Eric. I'm not an expert, but I think it would be wise to insulate the foundation.
