Content:
An intensive training in traditional and contemporary Japanese plastering including history, plastering procedures, materials and tools, with an emphasis on plastering fundamentals.
Techniques include:
Kirikaeshi (clay/sand/straw)
Arakabe (clay/chopped straw)
Shikkui (lime/hemp/seaweed glue)
Nami-otsumigaki (colored clay/lime/hemp)
As well as a Tataki traditional pounded earthen floor

Instructor:
Kyle Holzhueter, PhD works as a builder, consultant, researcher and educator in Japan specializing in natural building materials such as straw bale and natural plasters. Kyle is a graduate of the Kyoto Plastering Institute and in 2016 became the first Westerner to achieve the highest nationally recognized rank of first degree certified plasterer in Japan.

Previous plastering experience is required.
Cost is $1000 for 7 days of instruction, organic meals and on-site camping.
